Your DOIs are registered. How many of them still work?
Sponsors, consortium leads, service bureaus and multi-journal publishers register DOIs by the thousand — and nobody checks the ones already registered. Addresses die, licences and reference lists were never deposited, abstracts are missing. One console audits every journal in your portfolio from the public registry, free, and repairs what it finds under your own deposit authority.
1 · Add the journals
Paste ISSNs, or one DOI prefix. No credentials, no contract: everything in the audit comes from Crossref's public API and from following the DOIs.
2 · Read the audit
Per journal: DOIs registered, reference / licence / abstract / ORCID coverage, retraction notices, and a dead-link estimate from a random sample of DOIs followed to their pages. A health score 0–100, with the formula shown.
3 · Repair what is broken
Order a full check of every DOI, or the repair: dead addresses re-pointed, licences and ISSN added, abstracts and reference lists deposited — through the DOI Doctor engine, under credentials you hold, with every deposit read back before it counts.
Why this exists
Crossref's own community asked for a sponsor console in 2020; it does not exist. DataCite's link checker tests one DOI per repository per day. Across all of Crossref, references are present on 59% of records and licences on 53.5% (PLOS One, 2025). Repair is sold as labour by service bureaus, or not at all. We built the engine to fix one journal's 739 DOIs; this console points it at a portfolio.
What we never do: register or activate a DOI that is not yours to register; deposit anything without a read-back; hold credentials we were not given for a named purpose. The audit needs no credentials at all. A repair runs only after you confirm deposit authority for that journal, in writing, on this site.
